About Us

Derek is an Electrical Engineer in his day job who spends much of his free time 3D printing. His affinity for the hobby began in high school. Back then, CNC machines were more mainstream while 3D printers were considered “new technology”, and a little bit harder to come by (not to mention way more expensive). Years later, his college had just gotten a shiny new printer and at the time it seemed like a fun mystery to figure out.

Now, 3D printing is much less of a mystery, but still just as fun.

I’m Katey (aka the wife half of the duo). I got into 3D printing after meeting Derek. I also like making websites, so I thought, why not combine the two?

When it comes to 3D printing, there can be all sorts of things to learn, no matter what skill level you are. Here at 3D Print Utopia, we aim to be a resource for you throughout your 3D printing journey. Our goal is to explain things to you in a simple, easy-to-understand way to deliver you the information you need.
